I took this past Thursday and Friday off of work to enjoy a nice long weekend with my husband who was also off of work. Since we were both off we made a plan to go hiking Raven Rock State Park on Thursday for Halloween! I was excited to not only be outside on such a beautiful day, but to also see the fall foliage too. But first thing’s first…making some coffee for the road trip.
Raven Rock is an hour drive outside of Raleigh, but the trip is worth it to go on this hike. The weather was great too, it was 75 degrees and cloudy and made for a pleasant hike.
The first stop on the hike was this beautiful overlook. The trees were beautiful with their colorful leaves and you could see the Neuse River going through the hills too.
And then we were off to Raven Rock which was another mile. When we got to Raven Rock we had to take these stairs all the way down to get to the bottom. The view was worth it.
Te rocks were wonderful. They were so big and many of them looked like they would just fall at any moment. Nature truly is a great wonder.
The last place that we hiked to was the river rocks. Remember all those stairs that we took down to the Raven Rocks? That’s right…we had to take them all the way back up to the trail.
We later made it to our last stop at the river rocks. The hike was a trail that went straight down to the river, so hiking it back up was crazy, but fun. The river was great and like all the other stops, very beautiful and peaceful.
I am so happy that we took this hike and I very much enjoyed being out in nature, especially during the fall. Overall we hiked 5 miles and 30 floors worth of trails. The fall foliage was beautiful and the smell of the rain from the night before mixed in with the fresh fallen leaves made for the perfect experience. I have no doubt that we may be back to hike other trails too, but there is also a few other parks that we can hike that are close to Raleigh too, so hopefully we will visit them as well.
