The first day of winter has come and gone and we are definitely in for a cold one this year. It is a time to be just a little more cognizant of keeping our skin healthy so that it doesn’t dry out or become distressed from the harsh cold air outside and the hot dry forced air on the inside. Monday through Friday I spend more waking hours in the office than I do at home, so it is very important that I have these five essentials on hand to keep my skin looking glowing and refreshed.
1.) Water Bottle – Keeping skin moisturized starts from the inside out. You can apply all the lotions and potions that you want, but if you are not starting with this basic step it will really do you no good. I keep a water bottle on my desk at all times to remind me to drink more water. Work can certainly take our focus away from little things like this, so having a water bottle on my desk at all times is my visual queue to stop, take a little break and drink some water.
2.) Desk Humidifier – You may remember that I suggested a humidifier for the bedroom in my last post about keeping skin healthy for the winter. As well as keeping a big humidifier at home to keep in the bedroom while I sleep, I also have this little desk humidifier that I keep on while I am working. At my office the heat is on constantly and even when it is not there is still a dry forced air that comes through the vents to keep the air circulating. The humidifier keeps my little space from drying out my skin too bad as it keeps a water vapor in the air around me. These are inexpensive and can be found easily on either amazon or maybe even bed bath and beyond.
3.) Hand and Nail Cream – I like to get a lotion that is specifically made for the hands like this Caudalie hand and nail cream. It’s formulated to absorb well and to keep the hands and nails moisturized throughout the day. I like to apply it after I get to work in the morning, after I go to the bathroom and wash my hands, after lunch and before I leave work. Hands and cuticles are very prone to drying out this time of year, so staying on top of keeping them moisturized is a priority.
4.) Facial Spray – To give my face a little extra concentrated moisture I like to keep a facial spray on hand. Whenever I feel like my face or lips are getting a little dry I just give a few spritz of the Caudalie vitamin infused water. You can tell I really love her products. I only do this maybe once or twice a day, just enough to give my skin a little brightening boost.
5.) Lip Balm – I’m not much of a lipstick girl as I mostly like lip balms. I am also not a fan of medicated lip balms as they can actually dry out the lips more due to the alcohol and medicine in them, so I keep it simple with this Caudalie lip conditioner. Like her other products, it is infused with vitamins and it since it’s not medicated it does not dry out the lips. I apply it several times throughout the day since my lips dry out so easy during the winter months.
Winter is just that type of season that requires more maintenance to our overall health. The days are shorter, the weather is colder and we tend to hibernate during this season. Our health really takes a hit from not working out as much, the dry harsh air on our skin and hair, the seasonal blues and cabin fever…it can be a little crazy. This is why I am going to do some winter health blog posts this season as this is the time of year when we can all use a little motivation. Do you have any winter office essentials?
