It’s so hard to believe that we are less than 10 days away from Christmas, but here we are! There are so many things that I enjoy about the holiday season and I have created a few traditions of my own that I look forward to every year. You’ll notice that I am not on Social Media as much during this time of year as I like to spend my time really enjoying the holidays with those I love. Here are a few of my favorite holiday traditions that I like to do every year.
-Putting Up The Christmas Tree
Is there any better way to start the holiday season than putting up the Christmas tree? There are so many layers to this tradition for me. First, there is going to the Christmas Tree farm every year during the week of Thanksgiving and picking out a tree with Joseph. After we get the tree home and in its stand, I make a cup of peppermint mocha and put on the Christmas music and together we decorate the tree. First we add the lights, then we add the decorative bulbs and then lastly we add our travel/life moments ornaments. We often forget what ornaments we have from year to year, but we love being surprised as we pull out Christmas ornaments that we have collected from places like Paris, London, Belgium, Germany and Costa Rica, to name a few.
-Making A Cup of Homemade Hot Chocolate
I found and tried out a recipe years ago for a homemade French hot chocolate and I have made it every year since. This recipe is nothing short of indulgent and decadent and simply scrumptious. This is not an ordinary hot chocolate as this a small cup of a thick sipping chocolate to be enjoyed over a longer time frame. Made with two premium chocolate bars, milk and cream I can say that the recipe is very simple and very luxurious. I always like to make a cup to enjoy by the Christmas tree with a lit fire and a Christmas movie playing on the television.
You either love it or you hate it, there is rarely an in between. As for me, I love it! I enjoy the process of first purchasing the wrapping paper, ribbons and bows. After I have purchased all of the gifts I like to make myself a peppermint mocha, put on the Christmas music and wrap gifts by the tree. I get so much pleasure out of not only the anticipation for when the person opens a gift, but also after I have wrapped it and it just looks so lovely underneath the tree.
-All The Good Food
It’s hard to pick just one food tradition, therefore I am lumping them all in together! Everything from Christmas shaped pancakes on Christmas morning, baking and frosting sugar cookies and Christmas dinner. It’s always fun to cook the seasonal dishes that you won’t really have any other time of year. It’s so fun to make a great meal for friends and family to be enjoyed together with some music in the background and a lit fire.
-Opening The Presents
It’s not necessarily about getting the gift, it’s more about all that went into it. The careful consideration of getting something fun and/or useful for someone you care about, then wrapping the item in festive wrapping and then watching them open it and be surprised. I too love opening the presents given to me. It’s a fun tradition to share and I love that childlike wonder on Christmas. It is having a giddiness for the whole season culminating up to the unwrapping of the gifts.
