It’s a beautiful, warm Saturday here in Raleigh and the perfect time to get out of the house. I mentioned in my last Weekly Snaps post that a few pair of my jeans and shirts had gotten holes and that I needed to replace them. Instead of going to the mall or boutique stores, I decided to go thrift shopping at the second hand store instead. Not only is it better for the environment, but I also get more bang for my buck as they say.
I have so much fun going to a place close by my house called Clothes Mentor. It is a second hand store for name brand clothing that people can trade in for cash or store credit. I find that when I am wanting something for my closet that I usually check here first. I also have a lot of fun of just trying on things in the dressing room that I might not otherwise do so at a mall or boutique.
I tend to try on things such as sweaters, dresses, cut tops and apparently lots of stripes (channeling my inner Parisian).
I got lucky today and found some great pieces. I did find a pair of dark wash skinny jeans in perfect condition from the Loft for only $12.00 which I am wearing in the photo above. I also bought two spring/summer tops and a dress.
The first top is a layered striped top from White House|Black Market. I often buy tops that I can wear casually and at work and this one can really work for both. It will also look nice layered under a black or red cardigan. This shirt was a particularly good deal because is was new with the tags still on. The retail price of the shirt costs $78.00 and I bought it for $13.00.
The second top I bought was a blue floral print sleeveless top from J. Crew. This is another top that I can easily wear casually as well as layering it with a blazer to wear to work. I love the beautiful color of the blue as well as the loose fit. The looser fit will be especially good for the hotter months in the summer and the fact that it was only $8.00 makes it even better.
The last piece that I purchased was a blue and black print Diane von Furstenberg silk wrap dress. I have wanted a DVF wrap dress for many years, but they are sold for anywhere around $448-$498, so it was not something that I was going to purchase in the near future. Well, just imagine my shock when I found one at Clothes Mentor for only $21! I was actually shocked that it was listed for such a low price and after trying it on I knew that it was coming home with me. Even a used DVF dress is sold online for $212. This dress may be one of the best thrift store finds I have ever come across.
Altogether I bought a pair of skinny jeans, two sleeveless tops and a wrap dress for $54, that’s $24 less than just the WHBM striped top from the mall. The dress is of course the best deal that I got as I will probably never find another DVF dress for only $21 again. I am surprised someone let that dress go in the first place as it is in perfect condition. It’s always a good idea to stop in to these second hand stores as you never know what great deal you might find.
