Here we are in a new year and a new decade. It was nice to have a day off on Wednesday to stay home and relax and to reflect on the past year and decade. I have journaled and made some plans for myself for the upcoming year which you can read about here.
The rest of the week was nice and the weather went back and forth between being 70 degrees to 40 degrees. It’s been a weird start to the winter season to say the least, but that’s Raleigh for you. If it gets cold just wait a few days and it will warm right back up. Friday I treated myself to a latte at Starbucks and sat by the fire while I sipped my drink. It’s always nice when I can get out of the office for a little while.
The one thing that I like about the warmer weather too is that I don’t have to dress in so many layers, especially to get to work. In the mornings I usually need to wear a thick coat, scarf and gloves. However, this week I have mostly been wearing my wrap coat which is one of my favorite coats.
One thing I love to do at the first of the year is give my home a cleaning and getting rid of things that I am not using. It’s so great to refresh the home right after the holidays and to get everything back in order. I got rid of a few boxes and bags of things that we no longer needed and I just feel so much better not having those extra things around.
Saturday was a rainy day, but warm. I woke and got dressed and went to Trader Joe’s to do some grocery shopping. Because it was warm outside I didn’t need to layer up. I do love a good cozy sweater, but it’s also great to wear just a loose button down for the day.
The rain was kind of nice and refreshing too, especially since it was warm outside.
I thought Trader Joe’s would be more crowded since I went later in the morning, but it actually wasn’t that bad. I really appreciated being able to sleep in a little and then to go get the grocery shopping done.
Even though we are few months aways from spring, I still wanted to get some flowers to bring a bit of a spring vibe since it’s been so warm recently, so I got these white hydrangeas. Hydrangeas are some of my favorite flowers. I would love to grow them someday when we buy a house.
After I got home I put away the groceries and arranged the flowers in a vase. I am thinking of doing a post this week to share my favorite Trader Joe’s quick meals that I like to make throughout the work week. They have so many good items that go well together which are quick and easy.
Later that afternoon I went over to a friend’s house to help her unpack since she moved this past week. We got a lot accomplished, but she still has more to do. To thank me for helping her she took me out to the Mexican restaurant for dinner. I had a lot of fun spending time with her and then having a good dinner.
I always love new beginnings, whether it’s the beginning of a new year, new week, a birthday or a move. There is something about feeling like you can just start over. Now that it is January I can’t deny that I am obviously looking forward to the spring already. Luckily Raleigh is a pretty warm place to live, so we don’t have harsh winters though I expect that we may get a snow day or two before it’s over.
For the rest of the day I am just going to relax at home and do some laundry, enjoy my coffee, read a little and catch up on Season 2 of You on Netflix as well as catch up on some blogging. I hope everyone has a great week ahead.
