Is there a better way to start the weekend off than with a little picnic in the park in spring? It’s been a colder and rainier this week here in Raleigh, so when I saw that Friday was going to be sunny and in the 80’s, I knew I wanted to do a little something to get out and enjoy it.
Of course our options were limited, but that didn’t mean that we did’t have any. We decided that we would have a little morning picnic in the park by our house. The park is at the museum of art and is still open as long as people observe social distancing rules. That morning we went to one of our favorite cafes, Groovy Duck to pick up some coffee and treats to enjoy.
We made our way over to the park and found a nice bench to sit on to enjoy the coffee and treats. As you can imagine all of the chairs to the tables were removed, so we were not able to sit at a regular table. But we didn’t mind since we just had an item each to nibble on. The view from the bench was very pretty with the open sky and field in front of us. Joseph got the blueberry muffin and I got their little cheesecake. Fun fact, cheesecake is probably my favorite dessert.
After we enjoyed our food we went for a walk around the park in their nature trails and enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine. There were a few people here and there, but it wasn’t crowded and everyone was doing a good job keeping their distance.
We walked for about 2 miles and then we sat down on a hill for a few minutes just taking a little break enjoying the sunshine and view before we left. This is the first time that we have been out anywhere besides home, grocery store and work for Joseph. It was nice to have a little change of scenery and to visit one of out favorite places in Raleigh. I know it’s been said over and over recently, but it truly is the little things right now that makes the self isolation and quarantine a little better.
