Easter Sunday took on a whole different meaning for everyone this year. People usually either go to church, visit family, have a big Easter meal or all of the above, but this year we all mostly stayed home and stayed safe. Easter for a lot of us is a holiday that signifies spring and flowers and so I didn’t want to just skip over it without enjoying some of the things that I enjoyed about it.
For my husband and myself we of course stayed home, but that didn’t mean there was nothing special that we couldn’t do for Easter Sunday. I woke up a little earlier that morning and made a homemade mushroom and asparagus quiche to enjoy a little Easter brunch on our back porch.
Even though it was a cloudy day, it was still warm enough to sit outside and enjoy an iced coffee with music. Having meals on our back porch is one of my favorite things to do when the weather is just right.
Around mid afternoon we went for a walk around the neighborhood and enjoyed all of the pretty flowers that are in full bloom right now. They are just so full and vibrant, I loved seeing all of their beautiful colors as it really makes me appreciate this time of year.
We went back home after our walk to relax for a few hours then took the car out for a drive. We recently had a tune up and wanted to just take it out on the interstate to get it moving and to also fill it up with gas. It was like a little adventure for me since I have not been more than one mile away from home since I got back from Florida last month.
Since this was going to be a little road trip, we decided to open the sunroof, put on some good music and get a coffee at the Starbucks and to make the most of it. It is the first Starbucks coffee I have had in over a month and it was such an amazing little treat that I enjoyed every little sip of that coffee.
After we got home I made us some dinner and we relaxed a little before going to bed. It really was a simple Easter Sunday filled with simple little pleasures and simple moments of happiness and fun doing just these little things. One thing I have learned over the past month is that pleasure, enjoyment and happiness can be found in the smallest of things if we are just mindful of these little things that we mostly take for granted day to day. This past Sunday I was reminded that a good life can be found in these small moments and that living more slowly and mindful helps us to recognize when these moments are happening.
Glad to hear both you and your husband made the most of your Easter this year! I come from a traditional Italian family, so it’s safe to say that everyone here was pretty upset that we couldn’t all get together for a giant Italian feast like we usually do on Easter Sunday. Instead, we all stayed home and celebrated in our own way. For me and my parents, that meant watching a live stream of our community church mass on YouTube and then watching Andrea Bocelli’s live stream concert from Milan on YouTube as well. My parents ate lamb and pasta for dinner and I just had a bowl of cereal. *sigh* At this point, I’m just hoping that things will go back to normal in time for Christmas!!
I’m sure you really wanted to be with family this Easter, but it sounds like you all stayed safe which is the best thing we can all do right now! We did make the most of Easter by enjoying the little things that we had which in and of itself was very nice. Things will definitely be safer and more normal by Christmas, so you’ll be able to enjoy that big family dinner soon enough!
