Fall is that time of year that we seem to especially enjoy here in the States. We bring out all things fall and cozy related and we just can’t seem to get enough! I understand as I enjoy all things cozy and fall brings in that feeling of wearing soft sweaters, cooler weather and leaves changing colors. I do love to decorate the home for this season, but in a subtle way though.
I am definitely a less is more kind of girl, and that especially goes for my home and decor. I take a lighter approach and set about adding cozy touches in parts of the home that makes it feel more like fall. Here is how I subtly decorate our home for fall.
Add A Few Pumpkins
What is fall without a few pumpkins? I add just a few around the house to celebrate the season throughout October and November. While I do love the traditional “jack o’lanterns”, I keep the decor of pumpkins simple and without faces so that they can be kept out all season long. I have 4 pumpkins total in the home…one on the fireplace mantle, 2 by the stove and one on the bar at the kitchen.
Add A Touch of Plaid
Is there anything more fall than plaid? I love bringing in this pattern this time of year as it can really give your home that cozy fall feeling. I add touches of it here and there using throw blankets, pillows and table runners. A little can go a long where with this pattern, so I make sure that there’s just enough to feel cozy and not too much for sensory overload.
Create A Fall Coffee Station
Who doesn’t love a cute coffee station? This is always my favorite little nook to decorate for the seasons. I always add simple pieces to create a seasonal coffee station and for fall I like to add a touch of plaid on the coffee tray, a couple of fall coffee cups and fall flavored coffee pods.
Add A Few Throw Pillows
It’s amazing how you change the feel of your home by adding some specialty throw pillows. For fall I like to bring fuzzy and plaid pillows to add a cozy feeling to the space. I have on neutral fuzzy pillow on our sofa, a lush and very soft orange pillow on our living room chair and of course the navy plaid pillows by the window nook.
Time For Fall Candles
I really think my favorite season for scented candles is the fall season. Those rich scents of cinnamon, leaves and crisp air is just so relaxing and feel like home. My favorite scent is Sweater Weather from Bath & Body Works. I also love their Leaves and Autumn scent, but for me nothing is better than Sweater Weather and it practically stays lit up until December.
Put Out Some Cozy Books
Books are always a great source of decor. It’s an easy way to bring the seasons into the home and a good reminder to get lost in a cozy book yourself. I love to display books as part of my decor style and it is an easy way to change up the decor for a seasonal refresh..
And Lastly, Add A Wreath
My front door here in our new home unfortunately doesn’t have a good place to hang a wreath, but that didn’t stop me from instead adding to our decor inside the home. There was a spot in the dining area that was perfect to hang our pumpkin wreath. It creates a nice finishing touch for the space.
I basically added these fall touches to only the living, dining and kitchen area of the home. I like to keep the bedroom very neutral and calm, so I try to refrain from adding too many colors or patterns.
I hope you enjoyed my post on decorating our home for fall and if you decorate too then leave some of your own tips in the comments!
