When we moved in at the beginning of September, everything seemed to get unpacked and organized perfectly in no time. Everything that is except for the linen closet. It kind of became a catch-all of all of the miscellaneous items that we had leftover that didn’t go anywhere else. Things such as batteries, cleaning tools, extra household supplies and much more just kind of got shoved into this little space.
Now that we have been in our rental for a few weeks and things have settled, I decided to take some time to tackle this area. Before I got in there you can see that it might not be terrible, but it wasn’t great either.
The first thing I did was pull everything out of the closet to see what I had. I was able to go through the pile and discard items I knew that we didn’t need anymore. I was also able to either move items to others area of the home where they would be better placed or moved them out to storage because we would not need it in our home.
After the sorting I started to place the items back in the closet in a more orderly fashion. I also made sure to pay attention to their placement by making sure that the items we used most were within close reach while storing the items that we don’t use as often on the higher and lower shelves.
I also put a small nail on the bottom to hang the dust pan to create more floor space on the floor.
And lastly, I used a Command Hook on the door to hang a canvas bag and umbrella for quick access to when I need these items. Life is so much better with Command Hooks, I swear I use these everywhere.
And now our linen closet is clean, organized and clutter free. I love doing little projects this. There’s something about organizing a space that is so calming and pleasant.
