I feel like the great thing about Autumn is that it creates a time of slowing down and getting cozy at home as we prepare for the shorter days and cooler temperatures. We often feel so rushed in the morning between trying to either get a morning workout in, get ready for work, eating breakfast, straightening up the house and making sure that we have everything we need for the workday. So why not slow down this season and create a cozier autumn morning routine for yourself.
Mornings can be hectic, but with careful planning, they don’t have to be. The benefit of creating a seasonal routine is more mindfulness, a chance to slow down, and more time for yourself – something we all need in during this modern day of “busy”.
Wake Up Slowly
I like to set my alarm for 15-20 minutes before I have to get up. I do this because I like to wake up slowly each morning. It sets my day up to feel like I am not being rushed and that I can stay in bed a little bit longer to be woken up more gently. The caveat here is that you can’t fall back to sleep which will make you more groggy. I just lie in bed a little longer giving myself a chance to stretch, to start looking forward to my coffee and to give myself time to fully wake up before getting out of the bed.
Invest In A Cozy Robe
When going from the bed to get ready for the day, if you are not a morning workout person (I am not), then it’s nice to wrap up in a thick cozy robe first thing in the morning, especially when it’s colder outside. It’s a way to delight your senses and feel like you got out one cozy bed and into another. It can also keep you warm as you start making your way around the house which may be colder in the falls months as well. I personally love to wrap in my robe with some beautiful slippers, this will make you feel oh so cozy and luxurious.
Delight Your Senses
Speaking of senses above, why not go ahead and delight all the senses first thing in the morning? Smell, sight, sound, and taste. What are the coziest things that remind you of autumn? For me, its the smell of coffee brewing from the Nespressso machine as I walk into the kitchen. It’s the sounds of light jazz of Stacy Kent playing from the speaker. It’s the sight of a clean home, gray fall skies and fresh flowers to greet me every morning. It’s the taste of cinnamon oatmeal for breakfast followed by a homemade latte. To me, this is cozy.
Take Some Time For Yourself Before Work
Whether you work from home or need to go into an office, take some time for yourself to be still and get some fresh air. I would highly suggest a quick walk around your neighborhood just to get moving and to enjoy the cooler temperature. Too many of us spend all day sitting while working and not allowing some time for our health. Many recommend walking as a way to keep healthy, improve circulation, and lose weight. Spending time in nature in the early fall (before it gets too cold) is a wonderful way to connect with oneself. Perhaps you will see something very inspiring on your walk and it will keep you motivated and feeling cozy throughout the day. Alternatively, I also like to take some time to read when it is to cold outside for a walk.
Set The Mood With A Fall Playlist
I have a true love with creating playlists for everything, and use my playlists to set the mood for my fall mornings as well. I like a little easy jazz mixed in with some café inspired songs and indie songs to create a fall morning feeling of cozy and hominess. Music is the art of sound and I love to indulge in this artform every morning as part of my fall morning routine.
So, how will you approach your autumn routine? What does it look, sound and feel like? I would love to hear how you start your morning below in the comments. Thank you for reading the post!
