Not only is it the new weekend, it is also the start of the New Year! 2020 was nothing short of surprising, but it is time for another year to come along and surprise us in new ways. I am looking forward to another three day weekend and luckily Joseph will be off with me as well. We plan to keep it simple (of course) and mostly stay home to stay safe. The weather will be a beautiful 80 degrees though, so we plan to go to the beach in the afternoon to get a coffee and enjoy the nice weather. I think I will also order in some Chinese food…I don’t know why but this is a sort of tradition that I started many years ago. I just wanted to stay home, watch a movie and eat Chinese food for the new year, so I did. With a new year comes many thoughts and feelings about how we want to enter this new time and what we would like to accomplish. New Year’s is always a fun time for me and I wanted to create a weekend list around just that.
–The Minimalists Less is Now Documentary – I do enjoy The Minimalists and have for many years now. I thought their first documentary, The Minimalists: A Documentary About The Important Things was very good and thought provoking. So imagine my delight when I found out that they created a new documentary that will come out on Netflix January 1st, just in time for the new year.
-Waiting To Exhale – a favorite “New Year’s” movie of mine for a long time. A beautiful and touching story that starts and ends on new years eve about the lives of these four very different women that share a strong friendship bond through love, life and tragedy together. And the soundtrack and nothing short of perfection.
–Live More, Want Less – In keeping with our simplicity/minimalist theme, I checked out this book from the library this week to provide a little inspiration for the new year. It’s a smaller book full of practical tips and inspiration that I am enjoying so far.
–Taylor Swift, New Year’s Day – I don’t know how many song there are out there about New Year’s, but this has to be one of the most beautiful songs about it there is. This song was off of her Reputation album and was a stark departure from the other songs that were on there. It has a simple and soft melody with mostly just a piano to accompany the whimsical lyrics that tells of a story on New Year’s Day.
–Ceramic Canister Set – Nothing says new year like getting things organized and cleaned up in the home. I got these as a gift this year for Christmas from the husband and I simply love them. Not only are they beautiful in design, but they have also created a lot more space in my pantry as I was able to take out three large packages of baking ingredients and instead filled and stack these canisters. A beautiful way to organize and save space.
–French Kiss Life Podcast – Another podcast that I have been listening to for years, The French Kiss Life Podcast, which provides beautiful advice in every episode. Every year Tonya Leigh gives inspiration for the new year and talks about her word of the year and how to take action on living your word of the year as well. I basically listen to every new year’s episode of this podcast every year as it always has something worth hearing.
I hope that wherever you are that you will have a very Happy New Year’s and also that you stay safe and keep cozy. 2020 didn’t turn out how anyone expected, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t find comfort and contentment at home. I plan to make 2021 a year of ease and more simplicity and to take life day-by-day and enjoy the little things. I would love to hear your plans for the new year too! If you feel like sharing then let me know in the comments.
